Whitemarsh Island
Situated just west of Wilmington Island and east of downtown Savannah, Whitemarsh Island is about 7.5 square miles and has a wide variety of neighborhoods. From affordable middle-class single family homes to large million-dollar homes, as well as offering condominium communities with resort-like amenities, Whitemarsh offers a diversity of homes and price ranges unmatched by neighboring islands to the east.
Homes within the Savannah Yacht Club neighborhood, the exclusive Marsh Harbor community, and the gated Long Point development boast some of Savannah’s most prestigious addresses. Homes in all these neighborhoods range from the $400,000’s to over a million dollars, with those on the waterfront or marsh commanding premium prices. While these communities evidence Whitemarsh’s appeal as a desirable place to live, the majority of neighborhoods are priced more affordably. In these other communities, single-family homes are often priced in the $100’s and $200’s and condominium units can sometimes be purchased for even less.
The branch of the Coastal Georgia YMCA for all of Savannah’s island communities is on Whitemarsh. The new Islands High School recently opened its doors across from the existing Coastal Middle School. Whitemarsh also is conveniently home to the Savannah Islands’ only true regional shopping center, anchored by Publix Supermarket and Walmart. Some of the area’s most popular casual restaurants are located here as well, along with three bank branches, and neighborhood retail.
